Idle time has Ross Zumbach anxious for the Iowa Speedway and the Iowa 100 this weekend.

Racine, Minnesota (Wednesday, September 16, 2009): Ross Zumbach has been patiently waiting for his next opportunity to race in the ASA Late Model Series. The 19-year-old has been idle since July 11th when he attempted to make his Southern Division debut down at Charlotte County Speedway in Punta Gorda, Florida.

The last time Zumbach was behind the wheel was for Practice and Qualifying for the Best Show in Town 100 down in the Sunshine State, but Mother Nature has other plans and forced postponement of that event to October 3rd.

The idle time is now over for the Racine, Minnesota driver as he’ll climb back behind the wheel of the #61 Port City Race Cars Chevrolet Impala on Friday and Saturday, September 18-19th for the Iowa 100 at the immaculate Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

Zumbach will team up with Harley Boeve and Rich Lushes of Port City Race Cars as well 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Rookie of the Year, Landon Cassill, who has spent time in the #61 machine at various events this season.

Though Ross has not been on the track since that rained out show in Florida, he’s been able to travel with Lushes and the Port City Race Cars Chevrolet to both the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and the Nashville Super Speedway ASALMS Challenge Divisions races back in August with Cassill behind the wheel.

“Working with Rich and Landon was a learning experience that has given me a great opportunity to learn more about the car. Each time we get together it allows us the opportunity to gel and build a solid relationship. Harley has given me the chance to work with some of the best and I can’t thank him enough.” Stated the Gopher State driver.

Zumbach is returning to the Iowa Speedway where he had a very solid fifth place run earlier this year in a United State Super Truck Series race back on May 16th. “Getting the chance to go back with the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division is going to be a lot of fun.” He added.

At the age of 5 Ross started his racing career in Newton, Iowa. The Newton Kart Club sits just two miles from the new speedway and Ross is very excited about the opportunity to race so close to where it all started for him. “It’s really cool to see things come full circle to this, my biggest race to date in my career.”

Zumbach had hoped to build on a successful ASALM North debut at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway, where he finished seventh. The team then went to Punta Gorda, Florida two weekends later and after a great day of testing and qualifying at a track he had never seen, the race was washed out and cancelled.

“Rich had prepared and tuned an awesome race car down in Florida and combining that with what I learned during the day, we were going to be very good in the race. It was easy to be disappointed but in the long run was something we can build from.” He continued.

“I’m really looking forward to making the best of this opportunity for Port City Race Cars. I know Harley and Rich will bring a great car and we should have a great race weekend.” He ended.
