SOLID RUN AT GRUNDY CO.

6/4/2010-- 83˚ at 7:30 a.m. was the start of a hot but refreshingly positive day for Ross Zumbach!

“We unloaded strong and finished strong,” exclaimed Ross, “that’s something you can build off of.”  The first practice went real well.  Few adjustments showed the car could be strong in the race.

Practice number two was essentially non-existent due to a competitor’s engine failure, so the first run on new tires was only 6 laps.  Not at all what the crew was wanting and ended any opportunity for final adjustments.

Qualifying was not what Ross had hoped.  “We just never really got a solid feel for what new tires would give us,” said Ross.  The experience of veteran crew chief Howie Lettow would prove to give Ross a strong car for the race, and that is the ultimate goal.  Ross took the green in 11th position, but quickly moved himself into 7th, running in a 4 car, nose to nose battle for more than 30 laps. “It was just awesome to be running that close lap after lap,” said Ross.   “It was unnerving at times, running that close on a short track things happen pretty fast.”

“For a time, we felt that we had a for sure top five, maybe top three car,” said Ross.   “As the race went on we developed a loose condition, and things got pretty edgy.”  Ross ran as high as sixth, and at one point, with two cars getting together, it looked like Ross would cruise into a 3rd or 4th place position.   Ross explained, “We were avoiding a wreck, and took the #92 TD Racing Development, Artesian Fresh Ford to the high side.”  “Just about the time I could bring the car back down to the bottom, the first car involved made an unbelievable save,” said Ross.  ‘We got freight trained and went from 6th to 12th in seconds.”

As laps wound down, Ross was able to secure a Top Ten finish, ending a blistering hot day with a solid 9th place run.   Ross felt like he had a good day on the track and off.  This was the first event that Ross and Howie had had a chance to work together. “I learned a lot,” explained Ross.  Seat time is key right now, and being able to race again after only a 4 week layoff was huge.

Ross is excited to have two more shows on the schedule with TD Racing Development.  He and the TD crew will roll into Plymouth Speedway, Plymouth, Indiana, on June 26, 2010.
