ZUMBACH HAS GOOD RUN IN ASA SERIES

5/1/2010 - Racine driver Ross Zumbach had a solid first outing of his 2010 season in the ASA Late Model Series. Zumbach powered his No. 92 TD Racing car to a 14th-place finish at the Illiana Derby Run for the Roses 100 last Saturday in Schererville, Ind.

Zumbach was involved in an early wreck and, as he wrote in a Twitter post that day, had to "nurse the car home." Despite the wreck, though, Zumbach was able to finish on the lead lap.

The car was good in practice and qualifying. He was 11th-quickest and ninth-quickest in the two practice sessions, then qualified 12th. Brian Campbell won the race from the 10th starting position.

"We had a good weekend still," Zumbach told rubberracer.com earlier this week. "I got seat time and had some rust I needed to knock off; it had been since September. By the end of the practice sessions we were right there. We had a good qualifying run; one more lap and the car would've come to us."

Zumbach, 20, is hoping to get back in a car on a more regular basis this summer, if he can find sponsors to get behind him.

"Hopefully we can round some things up," he said. "That will basically be my job for the summer. … My focus is going to be on trying to find sponsorship. If not, I'd like to do what I did last summer, go to the track and work on cars and learn more about it that way."
